Although Mike and I were in different university departments at Salford, Mike was a very good friend and colleague to me and a considerable help to my daughter, Gillian, who struggled with the maths component of her university degree, achieving a 2:1 with Mike's help and I send my heartfelt sympathies to all his family.
We worked together as committee colleagues for the promotion and development of integrated sandwich courses at Salford, nationally and as delegates at a world conference in Boston, Massachusetts. Through all the times we spent together Mike was unfailingly warm, helpful and creative.
In addition to this, my late wife Barbara and I spent several happy days with Mike, Chris and the boys when they had moved to Swansea, a most warm and welcoming family. I know Mike will be sadly missed.
